Solar Panel Maintenance Packages from Rawson Solar your trusted, local solar panel installer based in Wrexham, North Wales.

What could go wrong with solar panels?

Luckily not a lot. Solar panels contain few moving parts, so are considered very reliable. There are occasions when solar panels will require maintenance and we do recommend that you get an annual service. This helps to identify any issues early so they can be resolved before your energy generation drops.

Issues which could occur without checks on your system:

Birds nesting under the solar panels (we can install bird proofing)

A build-up of dirt or bird droppings can reduce the panel’s efficiency

Solar panels turning off on cloudy days or when shaded (we can retrofit optimisers to correct)

Inverters displaying a fault code

Cracks or damage to solar panels (can occur from birds dropping items)

Monitoring or metering systems not working properly

Cables chewed by wildlife

Although these issues are rare, they have the potential to create problems if not found and resolved early.

Why do I need Solar Panel Maintenance?

Solar PV systems are considered low maintenance, however, they are not “fit & forget”. You will need to keep an eye on the health of your system.

Well maintained solar systems are known to generate up to 30% more than a neglected system. This could offset what you would pay for a maintenance package for the life of the system.

Our Monitoring Platform

All our installed solar systems have an online monitoring platform setup when we complete the job. The platform allows the end user to access live updates on key parameters of the system, this includes solar generation, grid export, grid consumption and battery charge level (if installed). Users can also see the cumulative financial benefit since the system has been installed.

The most important feature of the online platform is its ability to send notifications of faults or irregularities within the system. Issues could be solar panels covered in bird droppings or firmware updates needed for the inverter. Although, rare both you as the user and us as the installer will be notified of any issues. This allows us to take action remotely first and trigger a site-visit if needed.

Solar panel maintenance packages

We offer bespoke solar panel maintenance packages for both domestic and commercial solar systems. We also offer maintenance packages whether we have installed the solar panels or not. The cost of a solar panel maintenance package depends on a few factors the size of the system, age and the manufacturer of the equipment.

Our solar panel maintenance packages include the following, however, it is not limited to and we offer extra services:

Confirming appropriate signage is still in place (e.g. Solar PV Warning labels, live DC cable labels etc.) and will replace or add to it where necessary.

Visually inspecting the solar PV array checking for any cosmetic or operational damage, wear and tear, bird nesting or other defects.

Servicing hardware while carrying out visual and physical checks of cabling, containment, clips, circuit breakers, operation of isolation switches, junction boxes, inverter connections, battery connections etc.

Carrying out testing on all components this includes voltage & current tests on the solar PV array, standard tests of AC cabling between the inverter and the consumer unit.

Verifying the correct operation of the inverter and battery modules (if installed), noting the live generation compared to irradiance ready, battery power and grid power.

We will gather notes and photographs where needed to compile a report with any recommended or required actions for your system.

Other services available but not included in our maintenance package are listed below, we may recommend these services after our on-site visit:

Cleaning of solar panels if required we can provide you with a quote to carry out the work

Removal or replacement of faulty or failed equipment such as solar panels, cables, inverters or battery modules (if not covered by warranty).

Any additional materials or labour required for repairs.

Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting Your Solar Panel Issues
Is your electricity connected?

Without power to your home, your solar system won’t work. If you’ve lost your electric supply or you’ve run out of credit on your meter, your solar PV array will stop generating power.

Has your switch tripped?

Your solar system will have been setup with its own switch on the fuse board. This cuts the power if a fault is detected, if this isn’t in the “on” position your system has tripped.

Are the isolators in the ‘on’ position?

Isolator let you disconnect parts of your system if maintenance is required, make sure all isolators are in the “on” position.

Is there a problem with the inverter?

If the issue isn’t power it could be the inverter. Please contact your original installer to take a look or replace the inverter.
