Who are they?

Plas Madoc Leisure Centre was re-opened in 2014 under community management. Splash Community Trust who operate the leisure centre are a not-for-profit social enterprise. The leisure centre houses a swimming pool, sports centre, gym and café all for the local community of Plas Madoc. Employing 44 local people and providing vital services who wouldn’t otherwise have access to such facilities.

Requirements

Plas Madoc Leisure Centre was looking for a reputable solar panel installer to install a solar system as part of an ongoing project, which would help to reduce their carbon footprint and overall energy consumption. This project was funded by Levelling Up Funding, a government scheme to encourage economic growth and community support. The solar panel installation was to be completed along with a heat recovery system, new insulation and a liquid pool cover.

Our Solution

Plas Madoc Leisure Centre required us to complete a rigorous tender process to be accepted as their solar panel installation partner. Upon completion of this process, Rawson Solar was selected as the installer. On our first visit to the site, we completed an in-depth site survey to identify the key requirements of the installation. This allowed our designers to create detailed roof maps for our roofing team, along with cable routes and inverter locations for our electrician team.

At Plas Madoc Leisure Centre we installed a 134kWp solar panel system onto the roof of the leisure centre. This system consisted of 318 x 420W tier 1 solar panels along with multiple inverters. Which is used to convert the DC energy generated by the solar panels into AC power which can then be used within the leisure centre.

As Plas Madoc is a community leisure centre they have a high energy demand during daytime hours. This meant we needed to install a vast amount of solar panels to generate enough power to allow the leisure centre to run without drawing power from the Grid.

Benefits to the Client

The system we installed at Plas Madoc Leisure Centre is capable of generating 111,523 kWh of electricity for the leisure centre. This system will supply around 89% of Plas Madoc’s electricity consumption, which equates to 31% of its yearly electricity. The system will significantly reduce their electricity bill helping the Trust to support the local community for many more years to come, with the system achieving payback in as little as 4 years. The solar panel system will also help to reduce their carbon footprint offsetting 24,000kg of CO2 per year.

With a tight deadline to ensure levelling up funding requirements were met, this 134kWP system was installed in just 10 days, made possible by our extensive planning and the team working efficiently.

The solar panels installed come with a 25-year warranty ensuring a long life for the system, to allow Plas Madoc to produce energy for years to come with minimal maintenance required.

Customer Feedback

We applied for Levelling Up funding to enable us to sustain the facility and ensure the continued provision of services, opportunities and employment. The Levelling Up funding is helping us to target key areas that will enable us to make a difference in our future. We focused on initiatives which will impact reducing our carbon footprint and ensuring our energy consumption will not be a cause for concern in the future and aid our sustainability.
We were impressed throughout this installation by Rawson Solar. They kept us informed throughout, acted professionally and worked within the set timeframes.
