Who are they?

Farralls Group founded in 1956, is a 3rd generation family-run business. Farralls Group provide national and international logistical and warehousing solutions, they are a market leader in the UK & Europe. With a fleet of 70 vehicles, 100 trailers, and 3 warehouses located across the North West, they are an expanding business with a drive to move forward.

Requirements

Farralls Group were looking for a reputable installer to install a solar panel system on their warehouse roof. We were approached by Farralls Group to install a solar system at their Deeside warehouse, which is also their head office. They were looking to create a clean electricity source to power their sites and reduce their carbon footprint and CO2 emissions.

Our Solution

To meet the requirements of Farralls Group warehouse solar project, on our first visit to the site, we completed a full in-depth site survey to identify the key requirements of the installation. These in-depth surveys allow our designers to put together detailed roof maps, cable routes, inverter locations and operational areas.

From our survey, we identified an onsite unit that was lacking a suitable connection point for the solar array. Because of this a new 400A sub-main supply needed to be taken from the main incoming supply to the larger of the 2 units. The supply terminates at brand-new LV switchgear allowing the connection of the solar array further improving the unit’s overall electrical capacity.

At Farralls Group we installed a 552kWp solar system onto the warehouse roof. The Farralls Group solar panel system consisted of 1346 x 410W tier 1 solar panels and 9 x 50kW three-phase inverters. The system installed surpassed Farralls Groups current requirements as they had imminent plans to add All-Electric HGVs to their fleet. With the high-speed charging points installed, the site’s overall energy demand will increase dramatically. Therefore we installed a larger array to offset the future use of chargers.

As Farralls Group is a logistics company, uninterrupted power during operational hours is imperative to sustain business operations. For this reason, we offered complete flexibility during the installation process. Our team worked evenings and weekends reducing the impact on Farralls operations.

Benefits to the Client

The system we installed at Farralls Group Deeside is capable of generating a huge 430,000kWh of electricity for the business. Supplying 50% of Farralls current electricity. With payback expected in 5 years. As Farralls Group await new electric HGVs, powered via high-speed EV charging points, self-consumption will increase dramatically. In addition to reducing the payback period. Notably, the installed system will offset Farralls Group’s CO2 emissions by 100,000 kg per year.

The 552kWp system was installed at Farralls Group in just 21 days, thanks to our team working efficiently and our extensive planning. For the final connection a complete power down was carried out at night, to not affect Farralls daytime operations.
All solar equipment installed at Farralls Group works with a handy app or online web portal, allowing our customer to keep an eye on the operation of the array.

The solar panels installed come with a 25-year warranty ensuring a long life of energy production for Farralls Group. With minimal maintenance required throughout their lifetime.

Customer Feedback

We were looking to install solar at our Deeside head office/warehouse to create clean electricity for our site and reduce our carbon footprint. We approached Rawson Solar about installing solar on site and couldn’t be happier with the service provided. From the initial call through to commissioning, the entire process was seamless. They considered our busy warehouse schedule working around our business operating hours. The system installed reduces our current electricity costs with the capacity to power our all-electric HGVs which are arriving imminently.
